Our cleaning process involves multiple steps, from cleaning the piece of jewelry all the way to buffing and shining it for a professional finish. Most cleaning jobs we do include ultrasonic cleaning, buffing & polishing, and finally steam cleaning.
Of course, the specific process we take for each piece of jewelry varies according to what’s being cleaned. For instance, some stones aren’t suitable for ultrasonic cleaning, whereas others are. Prior to any cleaning project, we will keep you informed on what will be done.
You could of course have your jewelry cleaned at home, but there are some things to keep in mind before doing so.
First, when you clean a piece of jewelry at home, the end finish will be nowhere near as brilliant as it would be if a professional would do it. Over time, when one wears a piece of jewelry, dirt, grime, dust, and oils can get stuck in all the small nooks and crevices within the piece. It’s safe to say that a simple cleaning with some soap and a brush will not even come close to cleaning all this debris out.
At SUNSHINE, we have the equipment and materials necessary to do a thorough, deep clean of your piece that will remove all these foreign materials, and furthermore, shine your piece to achieve a showroom-caliber finish. No dirt, grime, or oils are left behind.
Secondly, without the proper materials and equipment, it’s possible that you can harm your jewelry with a DIY cleaning. Your fine jewelry is an investment, and like with any investment, you need to take care of it in order to ensure that it holds its value.
In addition, during our cleanings, we do a thorough inspection of your jewelry to see if there are any outstanding repairs that need to be done. This helps us address any potential issues that may become bigger, costly problems down the line if ignored.
